OCDJ
OCDJ is a lifelong music obsessive with a serious weakness for groove. Raised on a steady diet of crate-digging and genre-hopping, he’s been connecting dots between hip hop, punk, funk, rock, jazz, soul, house, disco, indie, breaks and electronica since the late 80s — and putting them to work on dance floors since the mid-90s.
From festival stages and basement clubs to dive bars and rave chill-out rooms, OCDJ has played to hip-shakers, beer-drinkers, radio listeners and just about everyone in between. His sets move fluidly between dusty disco, funk-heavy house, chunky floor-fillers, fresh releases, edits and stone-cold classics — always with an eye on the floor and a love of taking people somewhere familiar before slipping them into something new.
Based in Wānaka, NZ, he’s appeared at festivals including Rhythm and Alps and Relish, co-founded the Toneworks club nights with partner in crime Nick Munday, and supported artists such as Frank Booker and Christopher Tubbs. He’s also a member of the Tempo Schmempo label and party collective and one quarter of Rare Specimens — the disco supergroup dubbed “The Travelling Wilburys of Disco” after their incendiary Rhythm & Alps 2023 performance. Known for extended, high-energy four-deck sets, the group draws on disco, italo, acid house, Detroit techno and UK club culture, delivered with serious authority and plenty of fun.
When he’s not behind the decks, you’ll likely find him running festival stages, promoting events, or quietly making sure the whole thing doesn’t fall apart.
