Mono Era
They say necessity is the mother of invention. Mono Era knows this to be true.
In early 2023, Danny Fairley had a problem. Faced with a looming late-summer festival opportunity, but no music, band or live show to speak of, the main stage slot seemed both too good to pass up and too hard to pull off. At the 11th hour, he enlisted Dan Rainey in the hope that together, they could achieve the impossible.
And so they embarked on an uncompromising crash course of creativity that saw them write, record, arrange and mix an album’s worth of material in only 6 weeks. Once the music was complete, the focus shifted to engineering a live rig and learning to perform with a complex array of synths, analog mixing techniques, drum machines and effects.
Both seasoned producers, but with no previous experience working together, they initially challenged each other on every note, every sound and every arrangement. However, this friction soon proved fruitful, quickly forcing egos to be cast aside in favour of solving their most pressing problem — finding the best idea as quickly as possible. Before long, skepticism gave way to trust. Songs began to flow with ease, filtering Danny’s innate melodic songwriting sensibilities through the lens of Dan’s deep knowledge of House and Techno. Needless to say, their debut performance as Mono Era was a resounding success.
Fast forward to 2026 and the project has evolved into a truly unique proposition. Elements of Techno fuse with House, IDM and Left Field Electronica, while psychedelic melodies weave their delicate magic through the fabric of each track — each members’ contrasting perspectives aligned like two different sides of the same coin. With a slew of releases in the pipeline and a busy schedule of pending shows, it’s safe to say the Mono Era has only just begun.
